Church Custodian

The Church Custodian is responsible for the overall maintenance of the FUMC with regard to a variety of duties associated with cleanliness and appearance.

The Church Custodian reports to the Pastor and SPR Committee.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms according to established standards.
    o Cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms located in the FUMC Daycare should be conducted daily – before 8:00 a.m.

  • Clean and sanitize all offices, Sunday School rooms, fellowship halls, sanctuary, and other facilities according to established standards.

    o Cleaning and sanitizing of FUMC Daycare nurseries and classrooms should be conducted daily – before 8:00 a.m.
    o A thorough cleaning of the kitchen and fellowship hall should be conducted on Thursdays (after Wednesday Night Suppers) with special attention given to sweeping and mopping floors and wiping and sanitizing tables.

    o Special attention needs to be given to all areas of the church after the daycare

    lunch on Fridays to assure readiness and cleanliness for worship on Sundays.

  • Vacuum carpets, mop and wax floors, clean drinking fountains, dust furniture and appropriate surfaces, clean windows, spot clean walls, replace light bulbs (as needed)

    according to established standards.

  • Empty and sanitize garbage cans daily or as needed. Garbage cans located in more

    frequently used facilities such as daycare rooms, kitchen and fellowship hall may require

    attention multiple times during the day.

  • Clean outside walks and steps daily.

  • Remove liter and trash from church grounds daily.

  • Manage appropriate inventories of supplies and equipment.

  • Perform other duties as requested.

    Expectations of Work: The FUMC Custodian is expected to work a regular, 40 hour work week with a preference of 5:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. for scheduled work hours. FUMC reserves the right to alter work hours as needed to accommodate special events and other needs for organizations, activities and/or church events.

    Physical Requirements: Considerable standing and walking, climbing is required on occasion, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

    Qualifications: High school diploma or GED, ability to pass a standard background check, custodial experience preferred
